Meet Amanda Keay

Bridging Cultures, Building Connections

We’re excited to introduce Amanda Keay, our new Indigenous Engagement & Nîpisîskâw Program Manager at Family Solutions Group (FSG). With her diverse background and passion for reconciliation, Amanda brings valuable experience and cultural insight to our team.

A Journey of Identity and Purpose

Amanda identifies as Cree Metis, with heritage spanning both Indigenous and settler roots. Her journey of reclaiming her Indigeneity has been both challenging and enlightening. “It has taken me time and guidance from Elders to embrace my ability to walk in both worlds,” Amanda shares. This unique perspective allows her to connect deeply with the diverse families and individuals we serve.

Extensive Professional Experience

With 17 years in the field, including 15 years with the Government of Alberta in roles such as licensing, child intervention, and advocacy, Amanda has developed a profound understanding of the challenges facing Indigenous communities. Her experience in the Child Advocate’s office and her dedication to Indigenous engagement make her an invaluable asset to our team.

Education and Achievements

Amanda holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Native Studies, as well as a Certificate in Indigenous Women’s Leadership in Community Development. She takes pride in her work as a part-time facilitator for Makoyoh’sokoi (Wolf Trail), a women’s wellness group where she helps women balance their medicine wheel.

Vision for the Future

At FSG, Amanda is eager to collaborate with communities and provide culturally sensitive support and services. She envisions a future where “our communities administer culturally grounded programming for young people, whether in education, mental health, or child welfare.” Amanda hopes to establish an Indigenous room at Crossroads Foster Care, featuring medicine wheel-colored walls, smudging tools, and local art.

Personal Interests

Outside of work, Amanda is an Indigenous artisan specializing in beadwork. You can find her creations on Instagram and Facebook under “Thebeadedkeay.” She enjoys walking in nature and creating with her beads, fueled by her love of coffee in all its forms.

A Compassionate Approach

Amanda’s guiding principle comes from advice received early in her career: “We are only a decision or two away from being on the other side of the table.” This perspective informs her approach, ensuring she maintains a human connection and remembers that “we all make mistakes, and we all deserve compassion and support.”

Looking Ahead

In her first year with FSG, Amanda aims to develop strong relationships throughout the organization. She’s excited to contribute to our reconciliation efforts and help create an environment where Indigenous culture and connection are strengthened.

We are thrilled to have Amanda on our team and look forward to the positive impact she’ll make in our community. Please join us in welcoming her to the FSG family!
